Despite directives from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to regulate prices, essential goods such as vegetables, fish, and meat continue to be sold at higher prices in Jadu Babur Market, Lake Market, and Gariahat Market. Complaints from consumers regarding inflated prices have been reported across these three markets. To address this issue, task force officials conduct weekly inspections to monitor pricing compliance.
On Friday morning around 10:30 AM, task force officials visited Jadu Babur Market. During their inspection, they found that prices of potatoes, jaggery, and tomatoes were reasonable compared to other markets. However, the price of eggplant (brinjal) was significantly higher, and shopkeepers at vegetable stalls were warned to adjust their prices accordingly. At a nearby chicken shop, officials observed that chicken was being sold at 10 to 20 percent higher than acceptable rates.
The task force warned vendors that if prices of mangoes and other items did not decrease upon further inspection, action would be taken against the responsible parties. These weekly market visits are part of ongoing efforts to enforce price regulations and ensure fair pricing for consumers in these markets.
